64So, you want Google to make you rich?
This HubPage serves as an introduction aimed towards those who are new to Adsense and are interested in learning how to make a comfortable monthly income using it. It is possible to make enough money to be able to quit your 9 - 5, but you need to be dedicated, focused and be prepared to put in long hours.
Before we begin, some advice: learn, listen to others, and don't be afraid to try out new things. If you have a problem, ask questions. If you're prepeared to learn, I'm prepared to teach you.
Each day I will update the page with a new topic/discussion. After each topic/discussion I will provide links and resources so you can further your knowledge.
Day One: What is Google Adsense?
This is what Google says about it's Adsense program:
Google AdSense is the program that can give you advertising revenue from each page on your website—with a minimal investment in time and no additional resources.
That doesn't really explain much, so I will explain a little further. I'm confident in saying that I belive anyone who has used the internet has seen Google Adsense somewhere along their travels (wether they have consiously noticed or not). For those that swear they havn't seen Adsense ads. below is an example from a publishers website that uses Adsense.
How it works for advertisers is pretty simple. Afterall, it's their ads. that appear within the Adsense units.
Google puts relevant CPC (cost-per-click) and CPM (cost per thousand impressions) ads through the same auction, and lets them compete against one another.
What does this mean for you, the publisher?
Good question. As a publisher, or website owner, you can stick Adsense on your site and make money. Each time one of your visitors clicks a link within the Adsense unit - you get paid! The money you get paid is taken from the advertisers campaign budget. Depending on how well you rank in Google, and the quality of your websites content, some ads could pay more or less than others.
It don't cost you anything to stick an Adsense ad. unit on your page, just a little part of your page's real estate.
A brief rundown on how you, the publisher, should use Adsense.
- Obtain a website (I will go into this in more detail on Day 2. Obtaining a site need not cost you anything)
- Sign up to the Google Adsense program
- Carefully place the ad units on your page
- Monitor your traffic and revenue stats
- Collect your big fat cheque at the end of the day
Sounds simple. And it is! There are a few guidelines and some pretty important rules you must adeer to. Ensure you read the Terms and Conditions FULLY! Don't skim over these, because one mistake and your banned from Google and you've lost the lot.
